Abstract

In order to fully display the synthetic properties of aramid fiber reinforced composite (AFRC), the optimal resin content of untreated aramid fiber reinforced composite was determined to be 36%-42%. APMOC fibers in N2 atmosphere were modified by means of γ-ray irradiation technique. The effect of irradiation doses on flexural strength of AFRC was investigated by means of unidirectional fiber reinforced plastics flexural property test and SEM. The results show that flexural strength of AFRC can increase when irradiation doses is within 200-1000 kGy; the flexural strength of AFRC is improved most under 600 kGy irradiation doses condition. The oxygen content on treated fiber surface is higher so that the activity of fiber surface increases; The fiber surface after radiation treatment is rougher than that of the untreated fiber, which can make the bonding strength between resin and fiber intensified.
