Abstract
Drop hammer experimental methods and finite element (FE) methods were used to research the impact resistance of hollow concrete-filled steel tubular (HCFST) members subject to lateral impact loading. The deformation increased with the increasing velocity of the drop hammer when the hollow ratio of member is invariable. The deformation increased with the increasing hollow ratio when the mass and velocity of the drop hammer is invariable. The results of FE methods have a good agreement with the experiments and some factors that related with the impact resistance of H-CFST members were discussed by FE methods. It shows that the impact resistances improved with strengthen of materials and boundary conditions, and weakened with the incensement of the hollow ratio of members.
