Abstract

The determination of Au-based Te alloys suitability as phase change recording alloys for optical data storage was discussed. Au18Sb 23Te59 was identified as a suitable phase change material with a recrystallization time of 110 ns and high optical contrast. The crystallization for Au18Sb23Te59 and Au 19In26Te55 was accompanied by a change of at least two orders of magnitude in sheet resistance. Results show that suitable phase change alloys possessed cubic structures for sp3 bonded semiconductors.
