Abstract

Optimization based on the maths can be used to solve the problems in engineering. For the function optimization, basic genetic operation is very important. By use of the dynamic characteristics of the MR damper, the parameters are identified from the simulation results. The model parameters will be used in vibration control for civil engineering. The dynamic characteristics could be obtained under different field and different amplitude. Then the BuncWen model for the MR damper is established in which the model parameters are determined from the testing data. A comparison between the experimental hysteresis loops and those predicted using the established model shows that the genetic algorithm captures the nonlinear damping behavior of the damper quite accurately.
