Abstract
Under hydrothermal conditions, reaction of Na4[Fe(CN) 6], NiCl2 and dien results in the formation of a cyanide-containing heterometallic compound [Ni(dien)2][Fe(CN) 4] 1. The structure consists of one octahedral [Ni(dien) 2]2+ cation, square [Fe(CN)4]2- anion, which are held together by N-H⋯N hydrogen bond to form one-dimensional supramolecular chains. Its magnetic property was measured from 5 to 300 K, showing very weak ferromagnetic interactions. This compound in DMF solutions has a strong third-order non-linear optical (NLO) behavior with absorption coefficient and refractive index α2 = 2.10×10-11 m w-1, n2 = -2.05×10-18 m2 w-1, respectively, and third-order NLO susceptibility χ(3) 2.73×10-10 esu.
