Abstract
Energy storage systems (ESSs) are the key to overcoming challenges to achieve the distributed smart energy paradigm and zero-emissions transportation systems. However, the strict requirements are difficult to meet, and in many cases, the best solution is to use a hybrid ESS (HESS), which involves two or more ESS technologies. In this article, a brief overview of the HESS, highlighting its advantages for a wide range of applications, is addressed.
