Abstract
As one typical component of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), metal electrode is the determining factor of their output performance and lifetime. However, the conventional metal (Cu or Al) used in TENGs are vulnerable to high humidity and varied corrosion environments and these problems were barely noticed. Here, a high-entropy alloy (HEA) modified metallic glass (MG) TENG (HEMG-TENG) is developed by integrating a corrosion-resistant Fe50Cr16V20Ti12Al2 HEA coating with an amorphous Fe78Si13B9 MG triboelectric layer. The HEA coating, deposited via magnetron sputtering, enhances environmental durability while maintaining a stable triboelectric interface through optimized composition, sputtering parameters, and film thickness. The resulting device delivers a power density of 806.2 mW m−2, which is 13 times higher than conventional Cu based TENGs. Moreover, the HEMG-TENG maintains over 95% output at 94% relative humidity and exhibits less than 5% performance degradation after 30 days of seawater immersion. A rotary disk generator based on the device successfully powers 84 LEDs and operates stably in a riverbank wind alarm system. This robust mechanical energy harvester kindles the light of fabrication of human ideal “infinite-lifetime” and “environment-independent” energy harvesters, which powers the electronics outdoors in a low-carbon way.
