Abstract

High strength ultrafine-grained Al–2Li laminate was produced by accumulative roll bonding and aging processes. By the combination of ARB process and the subsequent aging treatment (120/150 °C), the strength and ductility are simultaneously improved. It is related to the accelerated precipitation of Al3Li with the slight reduction of dislocation density and limited grain coarsening. The perfect combination of ARB and aging processes excellently improves the mechanical properties of Al–2Li alloy. The outstanding mechanical properties (UTS = 353 MPa and EL = 11.7%) are obtained after the 5-cycle ARB process followed aging treatment at 120 °C for 72 h. The combination of ARB and aging processes can provide an efficient strategy for producing high strength and ductility ultrafine-grained alloys.
