High strength concrete-filled RHS steel tubes subjected to eccentric loading

Abstract

A total of 8 high strength concrete-filled rectangular hollow section (RHS) steel tubes were tested when subjected to eccentric loading, and the primary test parameters were slenderness ratios (varied from 19.4 to 39.3), steel ratios (8.2% and 14.2%), eccentricity ratios along major axis (varied between 0.113 and 0.412), width to breadth ratios (1.3 and 1.6). The experimental results showed that the bearing capacity decreased rapidly with the increasing of the slenderness ratio and the eccentricity ratio, and the local buckling of the wall of the steel section is evident when the steel ratio is below 8%. The numerical and experimental results were in good agreement with each other.
