Abstract

This paper describes the influences of high spindle speed on machining characteristics of micro EDM. In the case of the conventional relaxation pulse generator, it is difficult to supply electric power to the high speed spindle without causing run-out of the spindle because of the necessity to use an electric brush. Thus the electrostatic induction feeding method which enables non-contact electric feeding to the high speed spindle was newly developed. Machining results using the spindle speed up to 20 000 rpm show that the material removal rate increases with increasing the spindle speed.
