Abstract

Substation Automation System (SAS) network guarantees the protection switch control, smart substation operation and reliability of data acquisition of smart substation. According to the high reliability and real-time requirements of IEC61850 for smart substation communication, this paper designed a novel topology of SAS network for a regional smart substation combined with the nature cobweb structure. Fault tree analysis was applied to demonstrate the reliability of the topology architecture. Theoretical analysis of network delay based on the virtual link technology and OPNET Modeler simulation were employed to proof the novel cobweb topology architecture has real-time performance characteristics.
