High Bandwidth and High Voltage Hybrid Power Amplifier Design for PHIL

Abstract

This paper presents the detailed design of a new series hybrid amplifier for Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) simulation. The hybrid power amplifier combines the high voltage and high power of module multilevel converter (MMC) and the high bandwidth of linear power amplifier (LPA), which is suitable for use in PHIL to accurately reflect the high-speed voltage transient of the power system. The designed power amplifier provides a large signal bandwidth up to 5 kHz and a transmission delay no more than 4 μs, and the dynamic performance of this power amplifier has been verified through experimental results.
