Abstract

Ultrathin zinc element nanowires have been synthesized by etching zinc foil at 130°C by hydrothermal method. XRD result indicated as-synthesized Zn nanowires possess wurtzite structure. SEM images showed Zn nanowires have the length of micrometer grade and the diameter of 10-20 nm, and each nanowire owns a tapered top. The influences of reaction temperature on the nanowire formation were investigated. It was found that higher temperature led to the formation of nanowires. Growth mechanism of Zn nanowires was proposed temporarily.
