Abstract
Growth of ferroelectric single crystal fibers of LiNbO 3, both undoped, MgO added, and Er, Ce, Yb-doped, by using the laser heated pedestal growth technique, has been explored with success in obtaining designed orientation (〈100〉 and 〈001〉growth directions), shape/form (tapered and twisted structures), and dimension (approaching 100 μm dia.). This paper reports growth of fine dimension LiNbO 3 crystal fibers for integrating them into uninterrupted all-fiber optic network links. Preliminary results on doping distribution and lattice parameters are also reported.
