Abstract
Three types of In:Yb:Er:LiNbO3 crystals doped with 0.25% (molefraction)Yb2O3, 0.25% Er2O3 and (0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%)In2O in congruent LiNbO3 crystals were prepared by the Czochralski technique. The In3+, Yb3+ and Er3+ placeholder in the In:Yb:Er:LiNbO3 crystal was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The results indicate that In3+ occupies the position of Li and the partial position of Nb in the In:Yb:Er:LiNbO3 crystals due to the incorporation of Yb3+ and Er3+ ions, thus leading to that the 2%In:Yb:Er:LiNbO3 crystals reach a threshold concentration. The In:Yb:Er:LiNbO3 crystalup-conversion emission spectra were examined with 980 nm diode laser. It is found that the green up-conversion emission center wavelength is located at 525 and 550 nm, which are corresponding to the Er3+ ions 2H11/2→4I15/2 transition and 4S3/2→4I15/2 transition, respectively. The red up-conversion emission center wavelength is located at 660 nm, which is corresponding to Er3+ ions 4F9/2→4I15/2 radiative transition. In3+ ions can raise optical damage resistance ability of Yb:Er:LiNbO3 crystals. It can change local environment of Yb3+ and Er3+ ions. It can also change the sensitizing effect of Yb3+ ions to Er3+ ions. And change luminescent properties.
