Abstract

The effect of antenna rotation on angle-error sensing during coherent integration in mechanical scanning radar is investigated. When radar is working in scanning mode, the monopulse ratio of the target estimated in range-doppler domain is demonstrated to be a synthesis of the instantaneous monopulse ratios of each pulse. Thus, it is inappropriate to sense the angle-error with the curve of monopulse ratio in staring mode without any modification. A generalized method is proposed to eliminate the effect of antenna rotation during coherent integration. Simulation results demonstrate that the modified monopulse ratio curves, which depend on the radar parameters, could be utilized for a more precise and robust angle-error estimation. For practical implementation, a suboptimal method is also addressed.
