Abstract

Models of future earthquake ground motion, besides randomness, have strong fuzziness owing to the ambiguous definitions and norms of evaluation of intensity grades and site soil classification. The forms to express the fuzziness and randomness of the models should be different according to the differences of characters and conditions of practical projects. There are mainly two kinds of models for earthquake ground motion. The first kind of model is based on the prediction of the earthquake intensity and the use of earthquake response spectrum. Another kind of model is the one with a fuzzy random process which at present may be simplified as a random process with fuzzy parameters.
