Abstract

A full-scale experiment used Cross-flow Aerobic Reactor (CAR) as the last bio-treatment method was done in order to treat highly concentrated and refractory wastewater from traditional Chinese medicine production. The results of CAR's running and the observing of the microorganism of CAR showed that CAR could perform a good function unlike any other traditional aerobic reactors under the difficult status: the influent BOD5/C0D was very low after the treatment of two-phase anaerobic, the influent COD concentration was at 3-4 g/L, and its COD volume-loading rate reach 5-6 kg/m3. d. At the same time, the organisms on the padding of CAR grew fast and good; the removal efficiency of effluent COD was above 99%; the stable character of effluent was able to meet the requirement of discharge standard of Song Hua river. This full-scale treatment showed that CAR's special patent structure made it had high efficiency and ability against impulsion, and it was adapt to treat high concentration and refractory organic wastewater after anaerobic biodegraded.
