Fractional profilometry correlator for three-dimensional object recognition

Abstract

A novel method for three-dimensional shape recognition is proposed. It combines the Fouriertransform- profilometry technique with a two-dimensional fractional correlation algorithm. A grating is projected onto the object surface, resulting in a distorted grating pattern that carries information about the height and the shape of the object. Three-dimensional objects are recognized by a fractional correlator by use of the transformed complex amplitude. An optoelectronic hybrid implementation is also suggested.
