Abstract

In order to analyse the influence of coarse aggregate surface texture on performance of asphalt mixtures, surface textures of eight different coarse aggregates were measured directly adopting laser profilometer. On the basis of fractal geometry, structure function method for random process analysis was used to characterize the roughness of coarse aggregate surface texture. Adopting the quantitative evaluation method, taking the fractal dimension D and the intercept K as evaluating indices, the roughness of coarse aggregates was analyzed. Results show that fractal trait exists in the limited distance of coarse aggregate surface texture curve and the roughness of coarse aggregates nearly has nothing to do with the coarse aggregate size.
