Abstract

The matrix of the composite studied is Al-Al3Ni alloy, which has a good thermal stability, therefore, fracture work and fractal dimension can be changed, when tensile temperature is changed. Fractal dimension has been measured by means of fracture profile method (FPM). The results indicate that the fractal dimension of SiCw/Al-Al3Ni composite can be divided into three parts. Each part of the fractal dimension corresponds to a certain part of the microstructures. The relationship between fracture work and fractal dimension was also discussed.
