Abstract
The fractal theory was used to evaluate synthesis methods of nano-sized 3Y-TZP powders. The powders were synthesized by the distilling method and the alcohol-aqueous salt solution heating method. Grain sizes and agglomeration patterns of the powders were determined by TEM. Through the fractal theory analysis, the relationship between fractal dimension and sintering property was obtained. It is found that the sintering property of powders can be improved by reducing the fractal dimension and the radius of agglomeration if grain sizes of the powders are kept constant. Fractal dimensions in TEM micrographs were calculated and compared with the results of infrared spectrum analysis and sintering. The results show that the alcohol-aqueous salt solution heating method is better for the preparation of nano-sized 3Y-TZP powders.
