Abstract

Force and deformation of ring specimen during hoop tension test were analyzed. Equations for the distribution of radial normal force and tangent tension force were derived based on the assumption of linear radial normal force. Experiments of ring specimen of equal width and of gauge section were carried out to verify the theoretical analysis. Results show that the experimental results agreed well with the distribution of tangent tension force. The tangent tension force is axisymmetric about the tension direction and increases from the top position to both sides. The distribution of tangent tension force is even with small friction coefficient, but will increase rapidly from top to side positions, which subsequently results in necking and fracture near the edge of gauge section.
