Abstract

In-situ TiBw/Ti composites were fabricated by SHS-induction melting. The fluidity and filling of the composites were evaluated, respectively, by pouring ⊥ shape and wedge shape samples in investment casting. It was found that compared with that of matrix alloy, fluidity of the Ti matrix composites is decreased by 30%, and the thinnest wall-thickness of wedge samples is 0.30 m. The new method to characterizing the filling of Ti matrix composites was put forward. The filling ability of in-situ TiBw/Ti composites was calculated in range of 0.975 m to 2.46 m in the condition of free flow.
