Abstract

Isothermal turbulent swirling flow from the radial bias combustion (RBC) swirl burner is measured with a single sensor hot-film anemometer. The effects of the primary air ratio and swirling secondary air ratio on the flow properties are studied. The application of RBC burners on 670 t/h boilers which burn lean and bituminous coal at different primary air ratios has shown the advantages of the new type swirl burner, such as strong flame stability, high combustion efficiency, low NOx emission, resistance to slag and high temperature erosion. With the new kind of swirl burner and without auxiliary oil, the unit burning lean coal can operate stably at 52% of full load and the unit burning bituminous coal can also operate stably at 50% of full load.
