Abstract
A computer aided fixture design system (CAFDS) for concurrent engineering (CE) is presented, it is able to implement fixture design process from conceptual design to detailed design. First, a scheme of CAFDS for CE is given, and the scheme includes four parts: supporting database, reasoning, model evolution and information interface. Then an object oriented (O-O) fixture assembly model is discussed, which can evolve from abstract state to concrete state. Finally, an effective reasoning method for TOP-DOWN design with function-feature-form mapping is described, meanwhile, a modification method for assembly model is proposed and an example is developed under Pro/E environment.
