Finite-Difference Modeling of the Seismoelectric Logging in Fluid-Saturated Porous Formations

Abstract

In this study, we propose a finite-difference (FD) algorithm for calculating the seismoelectric logging in a horizontally-stratified fluid-saturated porous formation and/or with a mud cake neighbouring the borehole. Without considering the negligible feedback influence of the seismic-wave-induced electric field, the seismic waves in the borehole, the mud cake, and the formation are calculated by the identical FD discrete formula for fluid, solid and porous media. And then the distribution of the induced electric potential is calculated at each discrete time by considering the known seismic field as the source of the electric field.
