Abstract

Fiber coupling efficiency is severely damaged by pointing errors and the atmospheric turbulence for satellite and space to ground downlinks. In this paper, correlated Beckmann distribution is derived from the transmitter to receiver in the context of downlinks. And the relationship between the pointing errors and jitter in the receiver is explicit deduced. The mutual coherence function with the pointing errors effect on average fiber coupling efficiency is also introduced for analyzing satellite and space to ground downlinks. And the influence of other factors, such as design parameters, transmitter parameters, atmospheric turbulence and zenith angle, is also given. The results achieved will be useful in facilitating parametric estimation and system analysis of the pointing errors effect for satellite and space to ground downlinks design.
