Feasibility of denitrifying phosphorus removal technique using nitrite as electron acceptor

Abstract

The feasibility of denitrifying phosphorus removal (DPR) technique was explored under anaerobic/anoxic condition using nitrite as electron acceptor, and adopting sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The influence of nitrite concentration, COD concentration and pH value of inflow water on DPR was inspected through batch tests. Synchronous DPR process using nitrite as electron acceptor could be realized fully. The effect of denitrifying phosphorus removal was the best when the NO2--N concentration of 35±5 mg/L, pH of 8.0±0.1 in anaerobic stage, pH of 7.2±0.1 in anoxic stage, and COD concentration of 400 mg/L were controlled.
