Abstract
Electric vehicles (EVs) develop with high-speed in recent years. The automotive manufacturers recommend that battery will be replaced, when the remaining capacity reaches 80%. However, the capacity left in the battery can be used to support other fields, which requires lower performance. This paper attempts to analysis the feasibility of transportation battery second life used in communication base station backup power in order to promote a sustainable transportation and avoid the environmental impact. The growth rate of EVs has be adopted to predict the number of retired batteries, ensuring the battery resource is enough. The performance of retired batteries and lead-acid batteries is compared to ensure the reliability of retired batteries. An economic analysis model is established, which can calculate the cost savings in new energy scenario. The results show that the production of China's EVs is sufficient to support the second use of transportation batteries, and the retired batteries' performance is better than traditional lead-acid batteries, while saving costs.
