Abstract

In order to investigate the influence of substructures on the failure behavior of steel reticulated domes subjected to severe earthquake, this paper built a more accurate numerical model. Applied on the full-range dynamic response analysis method, two typical failure modes of reticulated domes with substructures were illustrated according to the rigidity of substructures. A Failure criterion was proposed to estimate the ultimate load of the single layer reticulated dome. It is observed that reticulated domes with rigid and flexible substructures have higher ultimate load compared with those with medium rigidity of substructures. The ultimate load increases with the decrease of the rise-span ratio and roof load.
