Abstract

Considering low cost and high efficiency of ferrous iron for phosphorous removal, ferrous iron was used for removing phosphorous in wastewater by oxidation. The efficiency, affecting factors and kinetics of the oxidation process of ferrous iron were studied in this paper. The results show that simultaneous oxidation of ferrous iron can improve significantly the efficiency of phosphorous removal by ferrous iron. When DO raise from 0 to 4 mg·L-1, the rate of phosphorous removal increases by 47% after 60 min. The rate increases first and then decreases with pH from 6.0 to 9.0. The optimal pH is 8.0. Both raise of temperature and initial concentration of ferrous iron can enhance phosphate removal. A series of basic data are provided for wide use of ferrous iron.
