Abstract

Aim: The size effect of nano-materials can improve their mechanical property. Active and inert nano-bioceramics powders as bone replacement materials were fabricated by present study on the synthesis of nano-bioceramics powders, thus laying a foundation for applying nano-biomaterials in clinic. Methods: The chemical reaction method and heating ethanol-aqueous salt solutions method were adopted for synthetizing active nano-hydroxyapatite powder and inert nano-Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powder, respectively, and the component and microstructure of nano-powders were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. Results: 1 The nano-hydroxyapatite powders with particle size of 30-80 nm were fabricated when the pH value of fabricating solution was defined as 10.5-11.0. 2 The inert nano-Al2O3-ZrO2 composite powders with particle size of 10-20 nm were fabricated when the reactant concentration was assigned to 0.05-0.15 mol/L. Conclusion: Active and inert nano-bioceramics powders as bone replacement materials applied in clinic can be fabricated by chemical reaction method and heating ethanol-aqueous salt solutions method respectively.
