Abstract
To resolve the problems of case building, case retrieval and case adaptation, an extension method is proposed in Case-Based-Reasoning (CBR). In this method, the Matter-Element model in Extenics is applied in CBR to describe the cases and the problems qualitatively and quantitatively. The distance from a point to an interval, which is redefined in Extenics, is presented to calculate the similarity between the case and the target interval. The method of extension transformation is used in the case adaptation to adjust the selected case to meet the target requirements. An example of turbine type selection is used to illustrate the feasibility of the extension method applied in CBR.
