Extension-based control strategy for governor of hydro-generator

Abstract

A governor controller is designed by use of the extension control strategy to improve the dynamic performance of hydro-electric system. With the infinite-reservoir single-penstock hydro-governor infinite-bus system as the control object, a full hydro-machine-electric simulation model is established by integrating three models, i.e., the elastic water hammer model of hydraulic system, the linearized hydro-turbine model, as well as the classical second-order model of synchronous generator. The simulation results indicate that, in comparison with the PID controller, the extension controller can significantly enhance the dynamic performance of hydro-generator governor.
