N2 - With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, engineering education is experiencing unprecedented changes. This paper focuses on the cultivation mode of the innovation ability of top talents at the undergraduate level with academic competition as the traction. Taking the China Undergraduate Engineering Practice and Innovation Contest as an example, combined with the author's experience participating in the competition, the paper summarizes the experience, analyzes the theory, and discusses the effectiveness and feasibility of this mode in cultivating top talents. Combined with our own experience, we have innovated the practical teaching system, optimized the organization of the competition, adopted the cooperation between schools and enterprises to share resources, and verified that the model based on the combination of classes and competitions has a promoting effect on the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents according to the performance of the students in the competition.
