Abstract

Energy-absorption properties of the [±θ]5 glass-epoxy cylindrical shell subject to axial compression were studied. Tests were performed to study the effect of the winding angle of the fibers on energy-absorption properties. The crushing process, failure modes and energy-absorption capability of various cylindrical shells under various loading conditions were analyzed.
