Abstract
In order to know the machining performances of electrical discharge machining milling in gas (dry ED-Milling), experimental researches on electrical discharge machining milling (ED-Milling) in air were carried out with a single factor method. Two tool electrode wear compensation methods were used to process 3-D structures by dry ED-Milling. Experimental results show that the material remove rate (MRR) increases with the increase of laminated depth and decreases with the increase of tool path overlap ratio. There is an optimal spindle servo feeding speed (SFS) at which the MRR is the highest. In addition, the feature of low electrode wear ratio of the electrical discharge machining in gas (dry EDM) is helpful to implement the tool electrode wear compensation in dry ED-Milling. 3-D samples were machined by returning conference points, one of which is a sphere, whose diameter is 2 mm, located in a column cavity, the other of which is a trapezoid cavity, whose upper sides are 8 mm × 8 mm and its cavity walls with the slope of 30°.
