Abstract

In order to study the effects on wire drawing process caused by ultrasonic vibration, a set of experimental system on wire drawing with ultrasonic vibration was designed and built, which was composed of a ultrasonic power supply, a transducer device, a wire drawing die and a drawing mill, etc. Through a series of drawing experiments of brass wires, the effects of ultrasonic vibration on drawing force and surface quality of the wires were discussed. When ultrasonic vibration amplitude is enough, the reducing function caused by ultrasonic oscillation is obvious. Ultrasonic oscillation can also decrease uneven deformation of wire and is benefit to surface qualities. Compared to conventional wire drawing, the drawing forces can be reduced greatly by applying ultrasonically oscillating. At the meantime, the wire surface is smooth.
