Abstract

Through axial compression experiments of rings with variant shape factors and different hydrostatic pressures, the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the compression limit of an aluminum alloy 7050 ring was obtained. With observation of meridional sections of deformed samples, the deformation and fracture feature when the compression limit is exceeded under different hydrostatic pressures is analyzed. The experimental results show that the compression limit of an Al alloy ring increases as the hydrostatic pressure increases, and the increase displays linearity in a certain pressure range. The research verified that the formability of the aluminum alloy 7075 ring in the compression process was remarkably improved by employing hydrostatic pressure.
