Abstract

The interface bond condition between the concrete panels and asphalt pavement influences the stress status of Ultra-Thin Whitetopping (UTW) slabs. Therefore, it's necessary to understand the performance of interface bonding between the thin concrete slabs and old asphalt pavement. Previous researches mostly used straight sniping experiment or wedge split experiment to evaluate the interface bond condition; however, those tests do not represent the actual bonding behavior between UTW slabs and asphalt pavement sufficiently. In this paper PCC-AC composite beams were designed and cast and were subjected to three point loading test. The Crack Mouth Opening Displacement (CMOD) curves and Mid-span deflection-Load curves were collected through the experiments of different bond conditions. By comparison of results obtained from testing beams with different interface conditions, it was proved that this test can be used to evaluate interface bonding conditions of UTW pavements.
