Abstract

Torque disturbances caused by the aerodynamic loads are the main influence factors on performance of the machine-side control in the wind energy conversion system (WECS). Based on port-controlled Hamiltonian (PCH) modeling theory, the machine-side subsystem of the WECS with the disturbances from the wind turbine was described by a novel PCH model with bounded unknown disturbances in this paper. Moreover, a new energy-based control with L2 disturbance attenuation was proposed to attain the machine-side control objectives upon the designed model. Simulations were performed with a 2MW WECS and the results showed that the proposed control can realize the maximum wind power extraction well and possess good control performance under disturbances.
