Abstract
To improve the energy utilization efficiency of mobile nodes to prolong the lifetime of mobile wireless networks, an improved network gateway selection algorithm was proposed by considering more energy consumption parameters in gateway selection. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses about energy saving were performed. Simulation results were provided and the effects of the two algorithms on network performance were compared. Experimentation results prove that, by using the improved algorithm, network lifetime is prolonged to 1.42 times of that when the original algorithm is used. It is indicated that network lifetime can be prolonged distinctively by considering more energy consumption parameters when selecting gateways, meanwhile the network performance will not be degraded greatly.
