Electrophysiological mechanisms of induced spontaneous arrhythmias in healthy and ischemic heart at fast pacing rate

Abstract

Intense emotional, physiological and physical activities are often inevitable in human daily life, which are prone to induce tachycardia. Once the fast pacing rate occurs in ischemic heart, it is generally mortal. In this paper, to investigate the underlying mechanisms of ischemia-induced arrhythmias with accelerated heart rate, we develop a human ventricular cell and tissue model, combining main patho physiological consequences of ischemia. The results show that under ischemic condition when the heart rate is increased to some extent, due to the conduction block in the ischemic tissue, reentry can be formed by the delayed electrical wave, which is the foremost precursor of ventricular fibrillation. Hyper kalaemia is responsible for the arrhythmogenesis.
