Abstract

The formability of aluminum alloy at room temperature is very low, which can be improved significantly by high velocity forming process. The new sheet metal forming technology needs to develop to facilitate the use of aluminum alloy in automotive, aerospace and 3G manufacture. In the electromagnetically assisted sheet metal forming (EMAS), by embedding electromagnetic coils in conventional forming tools, improving and controlling of the strain distribution of parts are enabled. The state-of-the-art of EMAS was introduced and focused, and the importance to study the technology was presented.
