Abstract

The electromagnetic characteristics of infinitely long dielectric circular cylinder covered a lossless metamaterial near with a parallel electric line source is investigated in this paper. Firstly, the electromagnetic model is presented and exact solution was derived out. Secondly, the exact solution is employed in numerical calculations. The figures of the near field for different geometric and electromagnetic parameters are obtained, and the characteristics of the far field properties are studied through the directivity and normalized radiation resistance. For the negative refraction of the metamaterial, if the full focusing occurs, there will be two distinct focus areas in the metamaterial layer and the conventional dielectric cylinder, and for conventional material layer, the phenomenon could not be seen. Finally, the validity of the presented electromagnetic model is proven by comparing with other approachs.
