Elasto-plastic stability of semi-rigidity joint single-layer reticulated domes

Abstract

To research the stability performance of single-layer spherical reticulated domes with semi-rigidity of joint system and propose a approach for researching semi-rigidity of joint system, firstly the solid element model of bolt-ball joint with general finite element software ANSYS is established, and this model is proved to be reliable by comparing the data from experiments and finite element analysis, then bend stiffness of bolt-ball joint commonly used in engineering is obtained. Secondly the element model of single-layer sphere reticular shells with semi-rigid joint system is established, and its stability is studied. The results show that the stability performance and buckling mode of those shells varied obviously considering different bend stiffness of joint system, but not obviously considering different stiffness of rotation and the size of joint systems, and the stability performance changes with load distribution. The bend stiffness of joint system and load distribution mode are main factors impacting the stability performance of single-layer reticulated domes.
