Abstract
In this paper, we address the problem of eigenstructure assignment for a class of second-order systems based on displacement-plus-acceleration feedback. Without any constraint on the closed-loop eigenvalues, combined with polynomial matrix right-coprime decomposition, we propose a parametric method for eigenstructure assignment in second-order linear systems, and establish parametric expressions for the feedback gain controller and eigenvector matrices. As such, we transform second-order systems into first-order state space representations, which reduces the computation load. The proposed algorithm is simple, contains no 'go back' procedures, and the computational results demonstrate its effectiveness and simplicity.
