Abstract
In this paper, in order to further increase the reinforcement strengthening effect, on the basis of titanium matrix composites with a novel network microstructure, 10 vol.%, 12 vol.%, 15 vol.%, 17 vol.%TiBw/Ti composites with a tailored microstructure were successfully fabricated by decreasing Ti powder size and increasing milling energy, which can enhance the special surface of Ti powder and then the optimal reinforcement fraction. Additionally, the effects of volume fractions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of TiBw/Ti composites have been analysed. The experimental results showed that TiBw-rich region and TiBw-lean region are still observed in the present composites. Compare with that of pure Ti, the tensile strength of 10 vol.%TiBw composites is increased to 846 MPa, or increased by 106.8%.The tensile elongation is 3.7%. When the reinforcement volume fraction is increased to 12%, the tensile strength is enhanced to 970 MPa. Moreover, with inreaseing the volume fraction of TiBw reinforcement, the compressive yield strength is increased by more than 8 times at high temparature. These phenomena exhibit a superior strengthening effect of the present composites.
