Abstract

Based on the deepwater catenary mooring system used on a semi-submersible platform with 1500m water depths, four types of mooring systems are designed, in which static restoring force and damping are considered. The piecewise extrapolating method is employed to calculate the static restoring force of the mooring system. The mooring-induced damping is calculated with the quasi-static method. Motion of the semi-submersible platform is calculated in the time domain. The effects of static restoring force and mooring-induced damping on the motion response of the semi-submersible platform is summarized.
